Differentiation is the name of the game when marketing products to consumers. Differentiation’s mandatory companion is performance. Both of these are driven by creative individuals who use the latest technological tools to create viable, commercial packages that will deliver desired attributes all the way to their expiration date. However, there is room for improvement. A gap exists between the “idea generators” and the “idea executors.
New Polymer Makes Batteries Self-Healing, Recyclable

One of the big problems with current lithium-ion battery designs is that defects in the battery can cause electrical problems that lead to explosions and fires. Because of this, researchers have been trying to find ways to prevent these defects—called dendrites—from forming and also to help them repair themselves if they do form.

With all the media coverage of single-use plastics, it’s easy for consumers to forget that some of the best applications for plastic materials are in the building and construction industry. Products for both indoor and outdoor architectural and design features were showcased at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas on Jan. 21 to 23. Plastics have proven to be an ideal durable material for building and construction applications, providing long-lasting beauty with minimal maintenance.

Consumers confused by distinction between biobased and biodegradable plastics

PlasticsToday.com

The difference between biobased and biodegradable plastics is confusing to the average consumer, to say the least.  The latest global survey commissioned by ING Research shows “consumer attitudes have reached a tipping point, leading them to avoid brands that don’t prioritize sustainability and environmental issues.

As sustainable business practices increasingly drive consumer spending habits, the plastics industry is responding to customer demand through unprecedented innovation, leveraging new technologies and materials to improve fuel efficiency in vehicles, reduce plastic waste in packaging, make buildings more energy efficient and so much more. Such advances have led to plastics’ increasing use throughout entire industries—automotive, construction, electronics, etc.
The truth about compostable plastics

Being “green” has its rules, and they are often confusing. To quote Kermit, “It isn’t easy being green.” A big part of the problem in getting people to dispose of their waste properly is educating them on the rules. Most people believe that anything that is thrown into the blue curbside bins can be recycled. Take paper, for example. Some recyclers have stopped accepting paper because most of them are drowning in it.
Carbon fiber composite protection for EV batteries

As any cook knows as do all those who appreciate tasty food, a couple of ingredients working in combination make a dramatic difference in just how good something turns out. Same holds true for masterbatches like ReVive Compatibilizer masterbatch from Ampacet (Tarrytown, NY). It’s a blend of functional additives that can reduce the amount of material sent to landfills by allowing post-industrial and post-consumer barrier films to be reprocessed back into the polyolefin recycling stream.
