Toyo Tires develops concept tire using 90% sustainable materials

Sustainable materials can be broadly classified into renewable materials that can be recycled, such as those derived from nature, and recycled materials that reuse things that have already been used in some way. Toyo reports that it uses sustainable materials for 90% of its raw materials. Last week, Toyo Tires exhibited the design of its concept tire at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan.

Spain is the world’s largest producer of olives, which is appreciated by olive oil aficionados and martini drinkers alike. However, olive trees require annual pruning to keep them in peak health, and these pruned branches present a headache for olive producers because of the sheer volume of organic waste generated every year.

Sumitomo Rubber uses hydrogen and solar energy for tire production

Following a successful proof-of-concept project, Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has begun mass production of tires using hydrogen and solar energy at its Shirakawa plant in Fukushima, Japan. According to SRI, each year the plant can produce 10,350 tons of tires of various types. The project, initiated in August 2021, centered around the use of a hydrogen boiler and solar panels installed at the factory site to generate steam for tire production.

Sailun Vietnam rolls out first rubber track

Bridgestone closing Shenyang, China TBR tyre plant

It appears that Bridgestone is preparing to close its tyre factory in Shenyang, China. A plant employee told our Tyrepress China site that production in Shenyang ceased at the end of January 2024 and that Bridgestone will officially shutter the site at the end of February. As of 5 February, Bridgestone had issued no official announcement regarding the plant.

Myanmar’s rubber market witnesses increment in prices amidst global demand shifts. The prices of rubber have experienced a slight increase in Mon State’s rubber market. Presently, Ribbed Smoked Sheet Local 3 is priced at K1,650 per pound, and sun-dried rubber is priced at K1,630.

Myanmar expects to export 300,000 tonnes of rubber in FY 2023-24

An official from Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association (MRPPA) says they expects to export about 300,000 tonnes of rubber in 2023-24 fiscal year. “We expect to export around 300,000 tonnes of rubber in 2023-24 fiscal year. Last year, it was just more than 100,000 tonnes. Myanmar produces about 400,000 tonnes. The reason for the low export last year was the rubber exporters feared losses due to financial policy. Stats Dept: Malaysia's natural rubber production rises 9.3pc y-o-y in November 2023

Natural rubber production rose by 9.3 per cent year-on-year in November 2023 to 30,669 tonnes, contributed by smallholders compared with the estates sector, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM). Chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement that the smallholders sector contributed 85.3 per cent versus the estates sector’s 14.7 per cent.

Jinyu Tire to focus again on car tire segment with Vietnam expansion

Chinese tire maker Jinyu Tire Group has broken ground on an expansion project to add passenger car and light truck (PLT) tire production in Vietnam. At a ceremony 12 Dec 2023, the tire maker said it would expand its facility in Tay Ninh province, Vietnam through three phases, with the first PLT tires set to be rolled out in 2025.
